 New Tank
Posted by p archer - 01-12-07 13:11 - 1 comments
I have just emptied my tank which was a FW tank. I am about to set up my tank and am waiting to get it drilled. My tank is a windsor 88 corner tank which is 330L, i am going to get a sump underneath it. I have purchased a RO unit, a skimmer which is for a tank between 125-500G, a phosphate reactor, an ecoaqualizer and 40kg of live rock. I am going to have 1-1.5 inch of sand as substrate and am getting an 18inch lighting unit so that i can have another set of lights behind the ones i already hav ...read more

 Frost Warning

Frost Warning

I have been out and about today and noticed some parts of the UK had a hard frost last night (the car said -3 at one point). This has prompted me to remind anyone that’s got a RO system and has their unit outside or in a unprotected location, it needs to be insulated or removed and relocated somewhere else.

Last year we had 40+ customers that damaged systems. Once frozen the pre-filters will be damaged and the membrane MUST be replaced, some units last year ...read more

The Danger Of Large Coral Colonies!
Posted by tuan - 07-14-06 05:46 - 1 comments
Last week my trusty old WM peristaltic pump packed up! To be fair, it was the gearbox on the Maxon motor driving the thing, it just jammed solid.

Anyway, I was too busy to replace it right away, I had to take the calcium reactor offline for a few days, hoping the kalk input can cope with the demands.

It didn't take long before visible damage can be seen on some sensitive acro colonies and montipora digitas that I've been trying to nuture from frags again! T ...read more

 Reefkeepers Weekender

Just to let everyone know that this event is on again this year! biggrin.gif

It is being organised by Philfish who is the site manager and as before he has secured us a fantastic deal by keeping the prices at staff rates.
So that is £18 a night per adult and £9 per child. (£15 and £7.50 respectively if you went last year).

 Algae Munchers
Posted by Tim Parkinson - 06-15-06 17:12 - 3 comments
Does anyone have suggestions on algae munchers for smaller tanks?

At the moment there is some varieties of algae inc calurpa, bubble, taking over.
The tank is 60gallon, 24" square by 30" tall

Algae blenny are off the list as I already have a pair of tailspot blenny, so adding another may cause problems.

any ideas welcome.
